CHAPTER 3 The Contract

I fell to the ground, hurting my arms and legs. I was in utter shock at what happened.

There were many unanswered questions in my mind. "Why was dad acting weird? Even my mom stood there, doing nothing.

I was so angry at them that I was planning all the ways in which I could run away and never come back. After thinking for a few hours, I decided to somehow break the door open and run away from this hell.

I packed all my belongings and was about to start my plan when suddenly my parents entered the room with teary eyes. They brought some food with them. Seeing them in this condition, I couldn't help but feel bad for them, even after all the horrible things they did to me.

"What's the matter?" I asked

"I know we are behaving strangely these days, and we are truly sorry for that."

"As you guys should be," I said in an angry tone.

"You deserve to know the truth and the reason behind our actions."

"Oh well, then you guys finally decided, huh? I thought you guys would continue to act this way until I get married to that bullshit guy."

"Twenty years ago, when you weren't even born, your dad and I were struggling financially. All our family members refused to help us, and they were the ones who stood beside us in those miserable times. They are really kind people."

"So what. That does not give you guys the right to make such an important decision of my life just because of your own selfish reasons."

"We are not done yet. There was a small condition in return for this help. They made us sign one contract."

"What kind of contract?"

"The contract lays down one condition, one of our children has to marry theirs when they turn 20; otherwise, we have to pay the entire amount with interest."

"So you chose to ruin my life for your dumbass contract. And what kind of good-hearted person will think about making a contract before helping their own fucking friend?"

At this point, I was so angry that I was ready to leave the house without hearing a word from their mouth. My mom gently held my hand to stop me.

"They helped us when no one stood beside us. Moreover, we can't pay the amount since it's so huge."

"How much is it? I am ready to pay them when I get a job," I said confidently.

"It's 90 million as of now, and it will keep on increasing till you get a job and start earning

"Whatt!" My jaw dropped.

"So what are you guys planning to do? Sell me because of a mistake that you made 20 years ago. How is this even fair to me?"

"We are not selling you; we are just asking you to help us once in return for what we have done for you so far. Please help us so that we can all continue to live a normal life without having to sell everything we own in order to pay this loan."

"Oh really! Then what about my life? Why should I be the one making sacrifices for all of you when you guys clearly don't even care about me?"

"Please try to understand that your brothers are too small for this. We won't even have money for food, and even if we decide to sell everything, it won't be enough compared to the amount. It's only you who can save us right now." My mom started begging in front of me with her teary eyes.

After a pause, I said in a firm voice, "And what if I say no?"

"Then I will kill myself and my entire family, as it will be much better than living without a house and money," my dad said in a raised tone.

"You know that you can't do that to me!"

"I can, and I will. Do you think it was easy for us? Marry him, or else you will be responsible for what happens to you brothers and us."

"And what about my studies and my career?" I said it in a shaking voice.

"You can complete it online after getting married. I have already talked about it with them."

"But still, I won't marry him."

"Too bad your weeding rituals  is starting tomorrow, so get ready for it."

Saying that he left, leaving me and my mom behind.
